Kristie's Foundation is currently working on raising money to build Kristie's Place; the first children's end-of-life care facility in Southern California. Kristie's Place will give parents of dying children an option. Most parents do not want their child to die in a hospital but bringing them home creates challenges and often is not possible.

Kristie's also partners with wish-granting organizations, and children's hospices from all over the world to bring kids to Southern California for a magical weeklong "wish trip" or short compassion stay.

You can contact Kristie's at 714-408-9781, or www.kristies.

Operation School Bell provides new school uniforms to children of need within the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD).

Did you know:
LBUSD is the third largest school district in the State of California, within a city recognized in Census 2000 as the most diverse city in the nation.
As many as 50% of the 87,000 students in the LBUSD live in households with incomes at or below the poverty level.
Nearly 70% of the District’s students qualify for federally subsidized school lunches.
That’s well over 40,000 children in need!

Operation School Bell provides elementary, middle and high school students with 2 shirts, 2 pairs of either slacks or shorts/skorts, and a sweatshirt (a jacket for elementary students). In addition, elementary school students receive socks, underwear, a backpack with school supplies and a shoe voucher if needed.

Operation School Bell is the only “safety net” that allows Long Beach Unified School District to mandate that every K-12 student comply with a school uniform policy. The program has proven to:
Improve the learning environment for students;
Reduce distractions in the classroom;
Reduce absences;
Reduce suspensions;
Improve test scores;
Improve discipline and reduce gang influences on campus.

Christopher Steinhauser, Superintendent of LBUSD, states “we attribute much of our nationally recognized success regarding school uniforms to the Assistance League, which has clothed thousands of school children whose families cannot afford to buy uniforms. We need and deeply appreciate the Assistance League’s continued and expanded support.”

Since 1974, Assistance League of Long Beach Rick Rackers Auxiliary’s Operation School Bell has provided new school uniforms to 50,000 of the neediest children in grades K-12 within the LBUSD. In partnership with the LBUSD, it is Assistance League of Long Beach’s goal to provide uniforms to 10,000 students by the year 2011. Operation School Bell is dedicated to the vision that no child should fail to attend or perform in school for lack of adequate clothing.
