Who We Are

Tammy Avila

Tammy Avila
Interior Designer, now

Tamara Rene Designs

As a child, rearranging furniture was like play time. Once my Mom suggested Interior Design, I took a course in college and knew from the first lecture that was the career for me. From that time on, I focused my education on becoming a successful designer.

I came to Designing Whims in 2002 while still attending college. My education included the study abroad program in Italy on History of Art and Architecture. My AA and bachelor’s level in design is from OCC and my certificate from the Interior Design Institute in Newport Beach.

I enjoy the process of working with clients from beginning to end. Whether it’s a simple window treatment or a custom built house. My goal is creating an atmosphere that allows them to relax and feel comfortable; starting with getting to know them, finding out what they are trying to achieve, and then helping them expedite the process.

One of my main goals in designing for a client is picking their brain to find out what makes them happy. Then giving them options that work for the space. In the end, it’s their design and I’ve just simplified the process.

I thrive on change and love making each client unique. Function and durability are always a must. Then of course comes the aesthetics. A design wouldn’t be complete without it being beautiful and functional to the client.

What people are saying:

“Working with you far exceeded our expectations for service and results! Your store is stellar at assuring quality products – we love our newly decorated room! Thank you Aegean Designing Whims! Let’s do it again real soon!”

Examples of my work

Bloeser Living Room Full

With this client, we started in the newly remodeled Living Room. They wanted to keep their Baby Grand Piano so we worked that into a new floor plan along with enough seating for guests - we replace all the furniture, and the window treatments have shears and traversing over drapery.

Bloeser Dining Room After

Our next project was to re-do their Dining Room. We replaced their older table and china cabinet with a new table and sideboard which allowed for a mirror and buffet lamps. We added gorgeous blue damask wallpaper, with an even more gorgeous chandelier, an area rug, and a Roman Shade and side panels.

Bloesers guest room

Their 3rd project was to update their Guest Bedroom. They wanted a Zen like relaxing and more masculine room. We replaced bedding, window treatments, and art and accessories

This bathroom remodel was inspired by the exotic slab of granite we found for the vanity. Our client wanted a romantic French European bathroom.
